Guinea Pig

Filed under: Uncategorized — donkowalewski @ 7:07 pm

This is my new blog where I play around with stuff and then add it to other blogs.  For example, what does this embed code look like?  It’s for Wierd Al’s “The Saga Begins”, which is currently my 4-yr-old’s “Stairway to Heaven”.  If my intent was to attract as many 4 to 9 year olds to my blog, stuff like this would do it.

As you will notice, this is NOT “The Saga Begins.”

When you Don’t Have a Blog Entry

Filed under: Uncategorized — donkowalewski @ 3:37 pm

When you don’t have a blog entry, I think the best thing to do is direct readers to something else you’ve written, or simply something funny you may have seen on the web.

So, first, don’t forget to check out my new American Idol recap at spunkybean …no, not the Wednesday recap of Tuesday’s show …today’s brand new recap of Wednesday’s show.

Second, thanks to reader M.W. for sharing this thing …its hilarious and I want to try this with my 4-yr-old.  I think he could summarize the Star Wars trilogy fairly humorously.  Enjoy.

American Idol, Season 8 – Season Premier!!!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — donkowalewski @ 1:51 pm

It may be a new blog, but some things will stay the same.  Among them?  The fact I make this blog yet another way to find eyeballs for my twice-weekly American Idol column.  But I don’t have to tell you that, dear blog reader.  Most of you are here in the first place because of my brief write-ups from two seasons ago that blossomed into extended write-ups, and then a pop-culture website, and even a few on-air radio interviews.

Might I suggest spunkybean.com and my article.  It’s that time of year when Idol returns and I go from a wandering, lost, confused person in this world to a hyper-focused, highly entertained, and sleep deprived super-fan.  It’s also the time of year when you get an unsolicited, desperate email from me saying, “hey …click on my article.  Read it if you’re so inclined.  And if you aren’t really a ‘reader’ and you aren’t into American Idol, still …click the article.”

Don’t make me beg.  :)   I’ll promise you this …I wrote at least THREE clever observations.  And depending upon how sophisticated and educated you are, its possible you’ll observe a half-dozen additional clever things amidst my 2,000+ words.

I’ll be there bright and early every Wednesday and Thursday from now until …well …May.  Most agree, reading spunkybean makes coffee taste better and studies show that, after reading my American Idol columns, productivity increases by as much as 40% in some cases.  I don’t write them for myself …I write these recaps for you.

To your health.  To Paula’s health.  To American Idol!!!  HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Jesus 2.0?

Filed under: Uncategorized — donkowalewski @ 10:59 am

Christian lore has it that Jesus was the son of God and will return.  When he does, a buncha stuff’s gonna happen (rapturing, saving, Armageddon).  And from what I can tell by reading the Old Testament, the Jewish people don’t believe the savior has come at all.

Hence, this premise:  When the savior (Messiah?) returns/arrives, will he have a blog?  Will he utilize Twitter?  Facebook?  I think, yes, he/she will.  Back some 2,000 years ago, Jesus used the available technologies to mass communicate which, unfortunately, was still mostly stars in the sky and large gatherings.  Like big poetry readings.  Or Burning Man, but everyone wasn’t so “out there” when it came to attending.

I also think he’d most likely have a reality show because its about the only way to get through to anyone anymore. It’d be called “Can You Be Saved?” or “Judgement.”  And it would be awesome because contestants who could be saved …Kingdom of Heaven.  Those who couldn’t be saved?  Eternal damnation.

And Simon Cowell or Piers Morgan would co-host …they’d have to …otherwise it just wouldn’t work.

New blog, Don. So? Now what?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — donkowalewski @ 3:06 am

How about a karate chop to your midsection, that’s what? Listen. There’s no time for “funny” and “nonsense” when you’ve got a job to do. And I’ve got a big job to do.

Seems that somebody was fooled into believing I have some writing talent, and now I’ve got big time pressure to perform.

Ok, real quick. It’s been 6-days since my haircut, and I think a haircut’s best days are somewhere between the 7th day and 21st day. Prior to day 7, it just looks like a fresh haircut. The back of the neck is too clean. After 21 days, its obvious to anyone that, “hey, that guy needs a haircut.” But between the 7th and 21st days …that’s when you wanna make hay. Go on that first date. Schedule that interview. Ask for free stuff from store clerks. Sit in a coffee shop somewhere reading a book and just be happy with the fact that everyone walking in the place is thinking the exact same thing …”hmmm, latte or cappuci- Whoa! Look at that dude’s hair! It’s like …like …like he’s a model or something. Would it be weird if I bought him a coffee?”

Just once, I wish someone would buy that coffee.

Happy New Blog!

Don toasts to a new year and a new blog

Yer asking …”Does Don really have a new blog?”  And, “is it really such a simplified name?”  Some are saying, “Oh, I get it.  ‘Donniego’ was pronounced ‘Don Ego’, and I was saying ‘Donny-yaygo’.  It sounded Spanish.”  It’s a new year.  Less confusion is my motto.

Also, something cool happened.  I think I landed a permanent, real writing gig, and part of the deal requires me to run and maintain a blog using WordPress.  So I had to make a new blog …on WordPress.

Don’t worry, this is still your best source to find out what’s going on with my hair, to hear me brag about my myriad of accomplishments, and for other random things.  But every now and again, don’t be surprised if I mix in something of substance.  That’s kinda what the new gig is about.

Much, much more to come.  Happy new year.  Welcome and welcome back.
